Release is a contemporary movement class rooted in a lineage of exploration, internal awareness, and imaginative play. In this class, release is not a style to be mastered but a way of experiencing the body as a living, interconnected system. We work from the inside out, drawing movement from the skeletal structure, fluid pathways, organs, fascia, and skin. These anatomical systems become sites of imagery, metaphor, and meaning, allowing dancers to move with both clarity and poetic sensibility.
Each class is co-created in real time. I set the rhythm, tone, and artistic throughline, although I do not dictate the experience. The room becomes a shared space of curiosity, consent, and conversation. We sometimes engage in gentle partner work, always with clear invitations and options. I offer space for input, community building, and the breakdown of assumed hierarchies through open gesture and a friendly, grounded demeanor.
The movement itself shifts week to week, sometimes robust, dynamic, and full-bodied, sometimes simple, quiet, and focused. I respond to the day, the dancers present, the season, the astrological cycle, and the collective energy in the room. I hold myself accountable to that shared moment and bring material that meets the body, mind, spirit, and sensory world fully.
Release is a practice in flow, presence, and the universe inside the body. And yes, we roll a lot.
Please bring your knee pads, your curious movement friends, and baggy clothes that swarm you with affection.

“Release” is an open-level, drop-in class I’ve been teaching at Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Academy since Fall 2023. Welcoming teens and adults from all backgrounds, this community favorite invites dancers to tune into floor connection, movement mechanics, and the joy of releasing tension from the body. Each session blends somatic attention with choreography that lifts the spirit and honors the collective. It’s a space for breath, exploration, and shared presence.
Weekly classes begin Tuesday, September 8th from 6-7:30pm.
It is recommended that dancers bring knee pads, long sleeve shirts and pants.
